The Fiji National Provident Fund Retirement Expo in the rugby town of Sigatoka ended on a high today, with more than 1,300 members accessing services.
FNPF General Manager Member Services, Mr Alipate Waqairawai stated that the Fund was overwhelmed with the response received in Sigatoka.
The three day event allowed members of the public to seek advice on retirement planning, update their FNPF information, enquire as to how they could boost their FNPF savings and consultation regarding the Village Housing grant assistance.
“The main objective of our expo is to create awareness on savings and continue the conversation that retirement planning is critical. Growing old is inevitable, therefore early saving is important in order to have a meaningful retirement”, Mr Waqairawai said.
Mr Waqairawai added that they also received feedback on social media and emails from people enquiring about pension calculation and options available to them.
Majority of the enquiries received at the expo were related to the Village Housing grant assistance. Members also signed up for Additional contributions, which enables a member to boost their FNPF savings by increasing their employee contribution.
“The expo has a holistic approach, where our members can access all our services and receive the consultation they need, with no time restriction. We are encouraging savings, whether it be through additional contributions for those that are in employment, or voluntary for the self-employed or even children as young as 6 years old. It’s never too late to start saving”
The FNPF team also took time to conduct an awareness session with members of the Fiji Police Force at the Sigatoka Police Station during the week. FNPF services are also made available during the awareness sessions.
“We encourage our members to invite us for awareness at their communities, or even workplaces. We are ready to answer any questions and dispel any doubts or rumours circulating on social media; also re-instilling member confidence in the process”, Mr Waqairawai adds.
The FNPF retirement expo team will next head to Taveuni in June with plans to conduct more expos in other parts of the country later this year.
