FNPF commenced operations as a pension fund in 1966. The law which governed the Fund was the FNPF Act Cap 219. This Act went through various amendments over 40 years and the same was finally repealed on 25 November 2011 with some of its sections repealed at a later date.
The new FNPF legislation which came into effect with the repeal of the FNPF Act Cap219 was the FNPF Decree 2011 (Decree 52/11) which came into effect on 25 November 2011. This Decree has gone through 2 amendments by the FNPF Amendment Decree 2012 (Decree 77/12) which came into effect on 1 March 2012 and the FNPF (Budget Amendment) Act 2014 (Act 13/14) which came into effect on 1 January 2015.
In 2011, the FNPF Transition Decree (Decree 51/11) also came into effect to govern the pension reform and the same was also amended in 2012 through the FNPF Transition (Amendment) Decree 2012.
On 1 December 2016 through the Revised Edition of Laws (Consequential Amendments), all Decrees are now Acts.
