The Fiji National Provident Fund Board has approved a natural disaster withdrawal scheme for its members, who were affected by the floods that wreaked havoc in the West, North, and Central divisions.

FNPF Board Chairman, Mr Parmesh Chand, said the Board’s approval was based on the devastation of the floods and to provide members some financial relief during this difficult time.

The scheme is open to members that reside in DISMAC flood declared areas, whose residences have been certified by the District Officers/Provisional Administrators to be damaged by the flood.

“Members will need to have enough eligibility to qualify for this withdrawal and submit documentary evidence of their bank accounts.”

Mr Chand said that while the Fund encouraged its members to save for retirement, it had a corporate social responsibility in ensuring that its members’ social needs are met especially in times of natural disasters.

“This assistance is provided for in the Act and the Fund hopes that it will provide members some immediate relief in addition to what is being handed out by other agencies.”

Mr Chand said that to ease transport and other associated costs for members, the Fund will be sending out teams to the affected areas.

“We’re taking our services to our members and we encourage those that need this assistance to provide us with a verification form from the District Officers’ office, complete the partial withdrawal form and provide us verification of their bank account numbers.”

FNPF teams will be deployed and based at the District Officer’s offices in Rakiraki, Ba, Nadi, Sigatoka and Nausori to receive members’ applications. Those affected in the Northern division can lodge their applications in the Labasa office and Savusavu agency. The Fund’s Suva Headquarters will also receive applications.
