Media Releases

The Fiji National Provident has confirmed that on site inspections have been conducted to all the flooded areas issued by the Commissioner Western’s office and teams are now conducting follow up visits to members who may have missed out on the inspections and are living in those affected areas.

The Fund has received an influx of calls, emails and social media messages from members requesting for application forms also enquiring why their locations are not listed for inspection.

Chief Executive Officer Jaoji Koroi said that lots of members who are not living in the affected areas are turning up in locations where our teams are visiting.

Unfortunately some Turaga ni Koros and Councilors are allowing this to happen. Again this delays our efforts to assist those who genuinely need assistance.

“The areas that are in the inspection schedules are those which have been declared worst affected, as advised by Commissioner Western’s Office. We don’t just randomly pick areas to inspect.”

“We’ve been informed that members are hiring vehicles or are walking around looking for the teams so they can pick their forms”, Mr Koroi said.

Mr. Koroi said this only frustrates members and delays the flood assistance process.

He said the inspection teams have reached majority of the members who needed assistance.

Meanwhile, a total of $2.83 million has been paid out to 3,373 members.

More than 12,000 forms have been issued to members by the inspection teams.

Members have also enquired about the extension of the Natural Disaster assistance to Kadavu and Labasa, however, Mr. Koroi said the Fund will continue to liaise with the respective Divisional Commissioners before any decision is made.

“We will work closely with the Commissioner Eastern’s office with regard to assistance in Kadavu."

Inspections for the Western Division is due to wrap up by the end of this week.
