Fiji National Provident Fund’s COVID-19 Phase Two withdrawal which was to end with the fifth payment tomorrow, Tuesday 18 August, will now continue.

This means that members who continue to be unemployed or on leave without pay and have accessed their funds for Phase 2, are eligible to reapply and will continue to receive the $220 fortnightly payments from 1 September 2020.

Good afternoon members of the media.

This afternoon, I will take you through the next phase of our COVID-19 Withdrawal Scheme, which is specifically for members who are working on reduced hours or reduced wage rate.

The Fund has disbursed its second fortnightly payment for Phase 2 of the COVID-19 Withdrawal scheme today to 21,238 members amounting to $4.7 million, of which $2.6 million was the Government top-up portion.

Of these members, 5,318 are receiving their first instalment of $220.

Chief Executive Officer Jaoji Koroi said the number of applications received so far is lower than expected.

Members of the Media,

Good afternoon and thank you for accepting our invitation to be here today, for this important announcement.

At the close of every financial year, it is a requirement of the FNPF Act that the Board makes a crediting rate for the financial year. This crediting rate can only be determined after the Fund Actuary confirms that the amount will not place undue stress on the solvency requirements of FNPF.

This is a very important safeguard that was built into the Act as part of the reforms in 2012. Therefore, as FNPF members this is a time to anticipate, as it is a way in which the Fund contributes to growing all positive member balances.

A total of 15,920 Fiji National Provident Fund members will receive their $220 relief payment today for Phase Two of the COVID-19 withdrawal scheme. Out of these, 1,283 members are receiving their second payment after being assisted on 5 June.

Altogether, these members will be paid $17.5 million over a period of 10 weeks. Today’s payments totaled $3.5 million, with $1.9 million subsidized by Government. These members will continue to receive their fortnightly payments until their total funds of $1,100 are fully paid.
