Voluntary Membership

 Why become a Voluntary Member?

Whether you are a student, as young as 6 years old, a stay at home mother/father, run a small business, domestic worker, drive a taxi, one day you will contemplate retirement.

This is because the cycle of life dictates that we will all grow old. Some sooner than others.  Nevertheless, our needs as we grow older does not diminish with age.

That is why it would be great if we start saving for those days.  Saving for retirement with FNPF is simple because the money you put away now will help see you through those days.

You don’t have to be a compulsory member to join the FNPF. Imagine the possibilities of a wealthier retirement, by joining the FNPF Voluntary Membership Scheme.

Who can become a Voluntary Member?

 To join this scheme, you must be

  • A Fiji citizen;
  • Between the age of 6 and below 54;
  • Student, self-employed or unemployed, or employed in the informal sector
  • Not eligible for the mandatory/compulsory scheme

How will this scheme help my children Save?

 It is never too early to start saving for retirement. The sooner you start saving, the more time your money has to grow. It is as simple as that.

Let’s say you sacrifice $10 a week to put into your 6-year-old child’s retirement savings. And you continue to do that until he/she turns 18 years old. Assuming a 5 percent rate of return, consistency of payment, no withdrawals/inflation, and your child will have saved up $8,368 by their 18th birthday.

And if he/she leaves that money in the same account – without adding another cent – until he/she turns 55 years, he/ she will have $47,154. That is the power of compounding interest.

Either way, it will ease the burden for you as when they begin tertiary, they are able to pay for some of their academic expenses. Don’t wait, sign your children up today.

Gift your child a good foundation for the future; sign them up for a Minor Account with FNPF.
